The Stitch

One of my youngest memories of Dad and I is over the shop when I was maybe 4 or 5. I walked into the office to find my dad stretched out on the floor looking in pain. I was shocked and scared and asked Dad what was wrong. Dad looking relieved to see me said "Louise! Be a good girl and go into the canteen an get me the salt." This didn't answer the question as to why he was stretched out on the ground and I was totally confused and asked him again why he was on the floor. Dad clutching his leg in pain tried as calmly as possible to ask again for the salt. At that point, I just kept asking Dad "why do you want the salt?" "But Daddy why?" I had no idea at the time that putting salt under your tongue took a stitch away which is why my poor dad needed salt so badly while i just stood there asking why. Dad told this story to many people over the years as an example of my stubbornness and as an example of when he wanted to simple strangle me Homer and Bart Simpson style. We got a lot of laughs from that story.
